ReSharper 5.1 Fixes Many Issues

I finally noticed JetBrains posted ReSharper 5.1. They’ve fixed the noticeable issues I had, so I no longer have reason for complaint.

Checkout their blog post if you want more details:

http://blogs.jetbrains.com/dotnet/tag/resharper-51/

And if you want to download the new version, look at the nightly builds:

(Note that the builds aren’t nightly yet… not sure why.)

ReSharper 5.0 Easily Broken by ASPX Page Editing

April 23, 2010 Leave a comment

Been having some problems with the public release of ReSharper 5.0 (as have several of my coworkers). Whenever I edit an ASPX page in my web site project, ReSharper stops working. This might be related to us still using a web site project, and not a web application. ReSharper seems to lose the relationship between the ASPX and the codebehind ASPX.CS.

The problem goes away if you suspend and resume ReSharper. I do it so often now, I bound a hot key for it (Ctrl+Shift+R, set in Visual Studio > Tools > Options > General Settings > Keyboard > ReSharper_ToggleSuspend).

What’s weird is that I didn’t see this at all in the previous Early Access Previews of ReSharper. I’m not sure why they decided to go live at all. They had a series of really great builds that everyone was happy with, followed by a moderate build. But then they had two completely broken builds that people didn’t like, followed by a low to moderate build. That’s when they decided to release the public version. So am I surprised that we’re seeing these issues in the “release” version? Not at all.

Maybe they got too caught up in releasing in parallel with Visual Studio 2010. Maybe it generated a lot of revenue for them. Personally, I just want them to release an updated version. Or start the Nightly Builds for 5.0 again.

ReSharper 5 Disabled in Visual Studio

April 14, 2010 Leave a comment

JetBrains just released ReSharper 5 (http://www.jetbrains.com/resharper/). I’ve been watching and actively developing with the EAP’s for a couple of months now, so naturally I’m excited. This marks a big release and a lot of improvements in ReSharper, but I’ll let you read about that on their website.

It installed and ran just fine for me, but my co-worker couldn’t get it working. He tried a complete uninstall, then reinstall, and ReSharper wouldn’t show up. It was listed in the addins on the Visual Studio loading screen, but none of the ReSharper features were showing up.

After a lot of finagling, he finally called me over.

Turns out he had ReSharper disabled in the Visual Studio settings.

In Visual Studio, click Tools > Options. Click ReSharper in the treeview on the left, and click Resume in the details view on the right.

(Note that if your ReSharper isn’t suspended, you won’t be able to click Resume. You’ll instead have a nice Suspend button.)

Now we are both running with the latest and greatest ReSharper. Blaze on, code refactoring. Blaze on.
